Android 12L released for Surface Duo and Surface Duo 2

The Surface Duo and Surface Duo 2 foldable smartphones have begun receiving the long-awaited Android 12L-based firmware update, which brings with it an updated notification shade UI, Settings app, and other system components. They’ve all been updated with Fluent Design to make the Surface Duo feel more like Windows 11.

Also new is the pen menu, which appears when you press a button on the Surface Slim Pen 2. The menu works the same as it does in Windows 11 and gives you quick access to up to four apps of your choice. This menu also displays the pen’s battery percentage.

All the key improvements introduced in Android 12L are also present in the new Surface Duo firmware update. In particular, it became possible to set the system accent color based on the selected desktop wallpaper, new microphone and camera usage indicators were added, and so on. But the taskbar from Android 12L is not available on the Surface Duo for some reason.

Update size:

  • Surface Duo – 2.6 GB
  • Surface Duo 2 – 3.2 GB
