Apple giant Apple has abandoned its first smart speaker, the HomePod, opting to focus on the smaller HomePod Mini. The company launched the device back in 2018, taking Amazon and Google to a growing market. The HomePod will be sold until the shares arrive.
“The HomePod mini has been popular since it last crashed, giving customers amazing sound, smart assistant, and smart home control all with just the INR 9900. Our efforts are focused on the HomePod mini. Leaving the original HomePod, it will continue to be available while the goods stay with Apple Online Store, Apple Retail Stores, and Apple Authorized Resellers. Apple will provide HomePod customers with software updates and AppleCare support and support, “the company said in a statement.
Unlike Amazon and Google’s smart speakers, Apple has chosen to focus its efforts on the audio quality of its devices. While the HomePod supports Siri, the speakers produce much better sound than competing devices from the other two giants. That said, and it makes the HomePod even more expensive than most of its competitors, which is probably why Apple introduced the smaller HomePod Mini last year.
The HomePod was priced at Rs. 19,990 in India, which puts it in competition with speakers such as the Bose Home Speaker 500 and the Sony SRS XB402M.
According to a February report by tech research company techARC, India’s smart speaker market has surpassed one million shipments by 2020, with Amazon leading the charts. The e-commerce giant took 79% of the market share by volume, Xiaomi is in second place with a 10% share. The company said Apple took 2% of the market share in volume in India, while 84% of its spoken speakers are the HomePod Mini.
