Apple has introduced powerful ARM processors M1 Pro and M1 Max

Apple has officially announced ARM processors M1 Professional and M1 Max for the latest MacBook Professional devices. They are improved versions of last year’s M1 chip, on the basis of which such devices as the MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Professional, entry-level Mac Mini, iMac 2021 and iPad Professional are built.

Initially, it was clear that M1 was only suitable for entry-level and mid-level devices, whereas flagship models required a more productive solution. And now Apple has really powerful processors that can replace Intel chips in all the company’s devices.

Apple claims that M1 Professional will offer 70% higher processor core performance and twice the graphics performance compared to M1. This processor includes eight high-performance and two energy-efficient cores, as well as 16 GPU cores with 2048 computing blocks. M1 Professional will be equipped with RAM up to 32 GB, which is directly integrated into the chip. The memory bandwidth is 200 GB/s. M1 Professional has 33.7 billion transistors.

In turn, M1 Max is the most powerful processor from Apple at the moment. This processor can be equipped with RAM up to 64 GB, the bandwidth of which can reach 400 GB / s. The GPU has 32 cores with 4096 computing blocks, the performance of which is 4 times greater than that of the original M1. As for the configuration of processor cores, everything is the same as in M1 Professional: eight high-performance and two energy-efficient cores. M1 Max has 57 billion transistors.

Apple also reported that M1 Professional and M1 Max processors provide 1.7 times higher performance per watt compared to both Apple M1 and unnamed quad-core and eight-core laptop processors. Both novelties are manufactured according to a 5-nm process technology.
