What is the Dynamic Island interface on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max?

Apple introduced what it calls the “Dynamic Island” interface on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. It enables new ways to interact with iPhone, features a design that bridges the gap between hardware and software, and adapts in real-time to display important alerts, notifications and activities. Dynamic Island displays ongoing activities in the background, such as maps, music or a timer, along with support for third-party apps in iOS 16.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max: Camera

Both of these iPhones have a 48MP main camera – a first for an iPhone. It is paired with a 12MP ultra-wide and 12MP telephoto lens. A quad-pixel sensor combines every four pixels into one large four-pixel equivalent to 2.44 µm. The quad-pixel sensor also allows for a 2x telephoto lens that uses the central 12-megapixel sensor for full-resolution photos. The new 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera with 1.4µm pixels is said to deliver sharper images with more detail and improve the already powerful macro photography capabilities. The new telephoto lens offers 3x optical zoom.

Crash detection and emergency SOS via satellite

The entire iPhone 14 series comes with crash detection and an emergency SOS function via satellite. iPhone crash detection can detect a serious car accident and automatically dial emergency lines when the user is unconscious or unable to reach their iPhone. iPhones have a new dual-core accelerometer capable of detecting G-force measurements of up to 256 Gs and a new high dynamic range gyroscope.

The iPhone 14 series also introduces Emergency SOS via satellite, which combines proprietary components deeply integrated with software that allow antennas to connect directly to the satellite, enabling emergency services to be messaged when out of cellular or Wi-Fi coverage. Emergency SOS via satellite will be available to users in the US and Canada in November, and the service will be free for two years.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are powered by the A16 Bionic – the fastest chip in a smartphone – according to Apple. They are said to provide all-day battery life. Other features include 5G connectivity and more. Apple is also giving Fitness+ to all iPhone users with the launch of the iPhone 14 series.
