“ASI wants to build a digital museum using AR and VR. The services will have a game-based platform to attract a new generation of archeology enthusiasts, “said Amit Bhardwaj, an assistant professor of IIT-Jodhpur department of electrical engineering, in an interview.
ASI, a government agency under the Ministry of Culture, participates in archeological research and travel, and is responsible for the preservation of monuments and museums. Although its main function is to protect historical sites, it has also incorporated into VR technology.
In April 2020, ASI entered into a partnership with the Google Arts and Culture section to provide in-depth VR information to five historical sites, including the Taj Mahal in Agra, Humayun’s Tomb in Delhi, Maharashtra’s Ajanta and Ellora caves, and Sarnath in Uttar Pradesh. Available on the Google Arts and Culture app and can be viewed on a smartphone using the Google Cardboard VR headset.
According to Bhardwaj, the AR and VR experience developed by IIT Jodhpur will be greatly improved. The game-based platform will help users learn about archeological sites and monuments. However, he did not have the names of the reminders to be included.
