AMD announced the Ryzen 7000 series mobile processors, the RX 7000 mobile GPUs, as well as the more affordable Ryzen 7000 desktop processors and the flagship Ryzen 7000 V-Cache at CES 2023. Many new products will hit the market as early as February 2023.
Ryzen 7000 for laptops
Last year, AMD repeatedly stated that Ryzen 7000 mobile processors would hit the market in the first quarter of 2023, so it is not surprising that the announcement took place at CES 2023. It is worth noting that the lineup includes processors based on the Zen 4, Zen 3, Zen 3+ and Zen 2, and you can distinguish them by the penultimate digit in the name (Ryzen 7020 – Zen 2, Ryzen 7030 – Zen 3, etc.).
But the difficulties don’t end there. The Ryzen 7040 series is for energy efficient laptops, while the Ryzen 7045 series is for high performance laptops. And these are completely different processors.
The Ryzen 7040 U and HS series (codenamed Phoenix) are similar in many ways to previous generations of mobile processors from AMD. They have fewer cores (up to 8) compared to desktop options and TDP up to 45W. But the amount of cache memory is now the same as that of desktop processors. Phoenix processors are the first AMD chips to use a new engine for accelerating artificial intelligence tasks (based on the developments of Xilinx). Its performance is reported to be 20% faster than the Apple M2.

The Ryzen 7045 HX series (codenamed Dragon Range) are actually Ryzen desktop processors, but tweaked for laptop use. Of course, their power is limited, so the Ryzen 9 7945HX will be inferior to the Ryzen 9 7950X, although they are almost the same processors.

Processors based on the Zen 2 and Zen 3 architectures will be designed for the low and medium price segments. So, the Ryzen 7020 and 7030 series will only exist in U modifications, and the Ryzen 7035 will be both U and HS. Simply put, these are slightly updated mobile processors of past years.

Radeon RX 7000 Notebook
AMD also announced the Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs for laptops. Now the line includes only four models, so there is no talk of a complete replacement for the RX 6000 yet. AMD claims that the performance of the RX 7600M XT is 10-30% faster than the NVIDIA RTX 3060.
Unfortunately, detailed specifications have not yet been published. It is known that all models are built on the RDNA 3 architecture and received 8 GB of video memory with a 128-bit bus. It is worth noting that these GPUs are manufactured on a 6nm process, while the chips in the RX 7900 XTX and XT are based on 5nm.
Ryzen 7000 V-Cache
Ryzen 7000 desktop processors have also been announced with 3D V-Cache technology, which allows you to place additional L3 cache memory on top of the main processor chip. Increasing the amount of cache memory can improve the performance of many applications, but the most noticeable increase is observed in games.
The Ryzen 9 7950X3D has 128MB of L3 cache, double that of the regular 7950X. Add another 16 MB of L2 cache here, and we get a whopping 144 MB of cache. This is really a huge number.

More Affordable Desktop Ryzen 7000s
And finally, Ryzen 7000 desktop processors that are not related to X models will go on sale soon. As expected, these are versions of existing processors, but with lower performance and, accordingly, lower price.
