Continuum-like hidden mode found in Android 12L for Surface Duo

Last week, Microsoft released Android 12L-based firmware for Surface Duo and Surface Duo 2 foldable smartphones. In addition to the announced changes, users also discovered a hidden cloud mode similar to the Continuum feature from Windows 10 Mobile, which allows you to connect an external monitor, keyboard, mouse, and connect to a Windows PC using Remote Desktop.

According to information Windows Central, Microsoft wants to integrate the feature with the Windows 365 Cloud PC service in the future. This should make the Surface Duo even more attractive to business customers.

The development of the feature does not appear to be complete yet. To get access to it now, you need to turn on the developer mode and activate the “force desktop mode” function in it.

  1. Open the app “Options”.
  2. Go to section “About phone”.
  3. Click on the item several times “build number”to enable developer mode (if successful, a notification will appear at the bottom of the screen).
  4. Go to section “System”.
  5. Select “For developers”.
  6. On the page that opens, find and enable force desktop mode.
