Discord voice chats have become available to Xbox insiders

Starting today, select members of the Xbox Insider Program can access Discord voice chats from their game console. This is a really important innovation that makes it easier to communicate with friends if you play on different platforms. This feature will become available to all users in the foreseeable future.

At the same time, it is worth noting that difficulties can arise even at the stage of linking Xbox and Discord accounts, and joining a voice chat is not so obvious. The fact is that you will have to install the Xbox app on your smartphone, as the smartphone will be used to redirect the Discord voice call to the Xbox. After that, you need to connect your Xbox account to Discord. If this was done earlier, then the process will have to be repeated, since it will be necessary to give permissions to access voice chats.

This completes the pre-configuration. When you want to chat with your friends, you will need to start a call in Discord, click on the “Transfer to Xbox” button, and then select your game console in the Xbox mobile app. You can also start a voice chat on a PC or in the web version of Discord, and when you click on the button, a QR code will appear on the screen, which you need to scan with your smartphone to open the Xbox mobile app.

Thus, you will not be able to directly join a voice chat in Discord from Xbox, which means you will always have to use the mobile application to transfer the call. The feature will work on both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

On Xbox consoles, a call from Discord will appear similar to an Xbox Party. “While playing on the console, you’ll be able to see who’s in the conversation and who’s talking,” explains Eric Voreis, Principal Program Manager for Game Interaction and Platforms, Xbox. “You’ll also be able to adjust the volume and switch between Discord voice chat and Xbox game chat.”

Right now, only select members of the Xbox Insider program can access Discord voice chats on Xbox consoles. In the coming weeks, the feature will become available to more Insiders. When the function will become available to all users is unknown. As a rule, innovations for the Xbox are tested for several weeks or months before they get to ordinary users.
