DRDO, Army successfully test fires indigenously developed laser guided ATGMs

The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the Indian Army on Thursday (August 4, 2022) successfully test-fired the originally developed laser-guided Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) from the Arjun Main Battle Tank (MBT) in KK. Range supported by Armored Corps Center & School (ACC&S) Ahmednagar in Maharashtra.

The Defense Ministry said in an official statement that the missiles accurately hit and successfully destroyed targets at two different distances. Telemetry systems recorded satisfactory flight performance of the missiles.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh praised the DRDO and the Indian Army for the successful execution of the laser-guided ATGMs.

Secretary, Ministry of Defense Research and Development and Chairman DRDO Dr G Satheesh Reddy also congratulated the teams associated with the test firing of laser guided ATGMs.


According to the Ministry of Defense, the all-original laser-guided ATGM uses a tandem warhead with a high-explosive anti-tank (HEAT) warhead to defeat armored vehicles protected by explosive reactive armor (ERA).

The ATGM has been developed with a multi-platform firing capability and is currently undergoing technical trials with the 120mm MBT Arjun rifle.
