Meta-owned Facebook has announced that it will be shutting down its standalone gaming app later this year. The largest social media platform is said to be sending alerts to its gaming app users and informing about the same. According to the announcement, the app will no longer be available for download from October 28. “We want to express our heartfelt thanks to all of you for everything you’ve done to build a thriving community for players and fans since the first app. launched,” Facebook said in an announcement.
As a reminder, Facebook launched its gaming platform – Fb.gg in 2018. At that time, it was supposed to compete with Twitch and YouTube. Two years later, the company introduced the service on smartphones by launching an application for the Android and iOS operating systems. Launched in April 2020, the app allows users to watch their favorite streamers, play instant games, and participate in gaming groups.
The company also updated the news on its gaming service website. “Despite this news, our mission to connect players, fans, and creators to the games they love hasn’t changed, and you’ll still be able to find your games, streamers, and groups when you visit Gaming in the Facebook app,” reads a banner on its website.
However, Facebook has not given any reason why it is shutting down the app.
Meanwhile, Facebook users will no longer be able to host live shopping events on the platform. Facebook Live Shopping will end on October 1, 2022. The company announced in a blog post that users will not be able to create product playlists or tag products in your Facebook Live videos. Are you asking why?
