Android 12 developer preview is now live. Google announced the update to the blog post late Wednesday and is only available on the company’s Pixel smartphones at the moment.
“At Android 12 we make the OS smarter, easier to use, and better, with privacy and security in the back. We also work to provide you with new tools to create a positive experience for users, whether they use phones, laptops, tablets, TVs, or cars, “Dave Burke, VP of Engineering at Google, blogs.
New updates bring minor changes to the user interface. For example, dialogue boxes will now blur the background and make the interface look more modern.
“We are rehabilitating advertisements to make them more modern, easier to use, and more efficient. In this first preview, you will see a change from the cabinet and controls to the templates themselves. We also improve transitions and animation across the system to make them more smooth. As part of the updates, for Android 12 apps we decorate notifications with customized content and icons and extended values ”‹”‹that match all other notifications, “Burke said in a separate blog post.
While the new version does not bring much change to Android, it includes HEVC video format support. Videos added to HEVC will start automatically with the new update. Android 12 will add a local audio support, while AVIF image format will also be supported. AVIF is expected to be an update to JPG image formats, which has been the default for Smartphones and desktops to date.
In addition, Android 12 will include some privacy and security updates, which users may not see before. The software will download some tracking controls from applications, using Google’s “SameSite” cookie settings, which have been seen in the Chrome browser before.
Android 12 developer preview is available with Pixel 3/3 XL, Pixel 3a / 3a XL, Pixel 4/4 XL, Pixel 4a / 4a 5G, and Pixel 5 smartphones.
