How To: Enable New “Open With” Menu In Windows 11 Build 25151+ (Dev)

Remember the new Windows 11-style “Open With” menu? A few months ago, Microsoft tested it in insider builds on the Dev channel, and then removed it, complaining about performance and stability problems.

At the same time, the company assured that it would return this menu back as soon as it was finalized, and all problems were fixed. A similar situation, by the way, befell the updated taskbar with optimization for touch devices – it was simply temporarily removed and sent for revision.

Well, in Dev Channel Build 25151, the new “Open With” menu is back! Yes, while it is hidden from prying eyes, but it can be enabled using the ViveTool utility!

Instruction

  1. Download the ViVeTool utility by this link. This is a new version of ViveTool 0.3.1, the details of which we described in our material.
  2. Unpack the downloaded archive to any place on your computer (for example, you can create a ViVeTool folder in the root of drive C and place the files there).
  3. Open a command prompt as an administrator (for example, by typing CMD in the search and selecting the appropriate item).
  4. In the command line, navigate to the folder with ViVeTool using the command cd /d , then press Enter. For example: cd /d "C:ViVeTool"
  5. Enter command vivetool /enable /id:36302090 /store:both and press Enter.
  6. Make sure that the command line shows the message “Successfully set feature configuration”
  7. It is not necessary to restart the computer, since we used the parameter /store:both.

I dare to suggest that in the near future Microsoft will publicly and officially return this new menu to Dev builds. I do not rule out that it can also be added to the Beta channel a little later through cumulative updates, i.e. in Windows 11 version 22H2.
