Google Maps has a very useful feature called Save the Park which lets you quickly drop off your car, bike or any other car, and navigate back and forth from anywhere. This saves you from getting your car in case you forget where you parked it.
Here’s how to put one together for use with your new home.
Once you arrive at your destination and park your car, just open Google Maps, make sure it has the required location permissions (Accurate, not Rate, if you are on Android 12) and follow the instructions below.
Go to the Google Maps homepage and click the ‘My Location’ button on the right. This is a crosshair-shaped button and shows you your exact position when pressed. The app will then take you to the current location, which will be displayed with a blue dot.
Tap the green dot to show the other options that will appear on the screen below. Under the ‘Your Location’ section, find the ‘Save Parking’ button. This will be to the left of the ‘Share Location’ and ‘Rate’ buttons.
Here’s how you can save your parking location easily once you’ve parked your car.
Tap the ‘Save Parking’ button once and you will see a small box indicating that your parking space has been mapped. Now you can navigate back to this place anytime easily.
If you dump a parking space on the map using the steps above, you also gain access to other advanced features that allow you to do things like share this place with someone else, add additional parking details (such as pillar number or parking floor number) and even set a parking timer to remind you when your limit parking time is about to expire.
Tap into your parking lot to reveal a small box at the bottom of the screen. Swipe up in this box to display these additional options.
Here’s how to navigate to your saved parking locations, or use additional features.
If you move away from your parking lot (indicated by a small, yellow flag on the map), you can still find it by zooming in on the map. Once you have zoomed in enough, good details such as restaurants and narrow streets should be cleared, but you will still be able to see your yellow parking flag.
Tap on it and from the options below, press ‘Directions’ to start navigating. Depending on how far you are from Park, Maps may suggest a walkway or a route, but you can change this the way you normally do by tapping the transport mode tab you want.
