India will soon become the leader in electronics manufacturing in the world, with its youth playing a big role in this endeavour, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State (MoS) for Electronics and Information Technology, said on Tuesday.
“PM Modi’s vision of an Indian Techade can be realized by our young Indians through their hard work, determination and entrepreneurship. The government on its part can only be an enabler with its initiatives like Digital India, Skill India etc,” Chandrasekhar said while addressing the students of Saurashtra University and Atmiya University in Rajkot.
The minister emphasized that the government’s strategy is to support the “deepening and broadening” of the electronics space through investment in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, machine learning, blockchain, etc.: “To this end, the government has been prepared to provide a grant of up to ₹ 100 million for investment in semiconductor designs.”
Chandrasekhar said that he will soon go on roadshows in different parts of the country to encourage entrepreneurs to seize the opportunities and said that our strategy is to reduce imports and aim to become a value creator for supply and value chains and not just an exporter of commodities.
Referring to Gujarat’s initiative in the electronics sector, Chandrasekhar said the state has taken several proactive measures such as announcing its own Semicon policy and establishing Dholera as the largest electronics hub in Asia. “Dholera will bring with it a lot of opportunities for entrepreneurs in the state.
“PM Modi is building a New India for a young India with renewed ambition so that we can achieve our goal of a $1 trillion/$5,000 digital economy and also emerge as a trusted partner in technology. They do not believe in the revdi economy or the culture of freebies as inhabited by some opposition parties,” he emphasized.
Chandrasekhar also met several young startups and entrepreneurs at Marwari University and discussed with them their applications/innovations and how they can be translated into salable products.
The Minister, who was on a two-day official tour of Rajkot and Surendranagar since yesterday, met students, entrepreneurs, startups, industry leaders, academia and other dignitaries and shared Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of empowering all Indians – Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas .
