JioPages web browser has made its way to Android TV via Google Play, the company announced today. The web browser was previously only available on TV via the Jio set-top box but will not be available for Android TV users worldwide. Jio says in his press release that the browser will provide an “improved browsing experience with faster search engines, class-best page rendering, faster page uploads, active media streaming and encrypted connections”.
On the web browser homepage, the main options include Home, videos, news and Quicklinks. Jio says its video category contains a selection of more than 10,000 videos divided into more than 20 categories including music, children, lifestyle, news and more. This feature has been introduced to simplify the process of TV content discovery.
The browser will support up to eight Indian languages ”‹”‹including Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Gujarati, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Bengali. Newsfeeds can also be customized by the user according to selected regional languages. In addition to viewing the latest news in the browser, it is also allowed to download e-newspapers. To read these newspapers, it has a built-in PDF.
As with most web browsers, users can bookmark a particular website and access their browsing history. In addition to the normal browsing mode, it also has Incognito mode for private browsing and protection to keep browsing history in the system.
The web browser was previously available to Android users in the Google Play Store in 2018. The Made in India app takes up 46 MB space, has over 10 million downloads on the platform and an average of 4.2 on Google Play Store.
