Microsoft Corporate Vice President Joe Belfiore is leaving the company

Joe Belfiore leaves Microsoft after 32 years with the company. The corresponding statement appeared on his Twitter page (banned in Russia). He also sent out an email to the company’s employees detailing his decision. Recall that for the past two years he has served as corporate vice president in the Microsoft Office team.

Joe Belifiore will reportedly remain with the team until the summer of 2023 as a senior advisor and mentor to help the team through this transition. The priorities of the Office team will not change.

Excerpts from Joe Belfiore’s internal email:

“After much personal deliberation, I have decided that the time has come to end my very long career at Microsoft after 32 years of building software and services with all of you. This summer, I sent my oldest child to college for the first time, and it made me aware of the lack of time during which I can focus on children and family before the last of our family leaves home.

Joe Belfiore began his career at Microsoft in 1990 as part of the Windows 95 development team. Subsequently, he has also worked on Internet Explorer, Windows XP, Microsoft eHome, Entertainment & Devices, Windows Phone, and Windows 10, including in leadership roles. In 2015, he took a year off to spend more time with his family.

After a sabbatical in 2020, Belfiore returned to Microsoft to work in the Office Experience Group (OXO). His team is responsible for developing Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Loop (app and components), Designer, To-Do, Planner, Project, Forms, Stream, Whiteboard and so on.

According to an internal email, Ales Holecek will remain as corporate vice president of the Office Product Group. Sumit Chauhan, who will report to Experiences & Devices Executive Vice President Rajesh Jha, will serve as co-leader of the group. Current VP of Product David Gainer will be promoted to Corporate VP and head of Office Products.
