Microsoft has released a new Chromium-based Microsoft Edge build number 102.0.1235.1 for the Dev channel, which brought with it several new features, as well as various fixes and improvements.
Main innovations:
- Added “Tabs from Other Devices” option to the tab actions menu.
- Enabled policy support from Chromium to control enabling the Set Timeout Without 1 Ms Clamp javascript engine behavior feature, which controls the change of setTimeout() calls from 0ms timeout to 1ms. Documentation and administrative templates will be updated later.
Fixes to improve stability:
- We fixed an issue that caused all tabs to crash with the FACILITY_VISUALCPP/ERROR_PROC_NOT_FOUND code.
- Fixed a crash on smartphones that occurred when submitting a review.
- We fixed an issue that caused applications with WebView2 to crash when configuring access settings for the user data folder (bug #2363).
- Fixed a crash on Xbox that occurred when using the Search Tabs feature.
Other fixes and changes:
- Increased the number of tab types that can be hibernated.
- Reduced the number of tabs that are destroyed in certain situations due to lack of memory.
- We fixed an issue resulting in the Tab Search feature not working.
- We fixed an issue where Print and Print Preview sometimes didn’t work.
- We fixed an issue that prevented you from deleting some search engines in Settings.
- We fixed an issue that caused some languages to be unavailable for spell checking.
- We fixed an issue that sometimes failed to enable or configure IE mode.
- We fixed an issue with Application Guard windows that sometimes blocked downloads when they shouldn’t.
- We fixed an issue where job/school search results would not appear in the search engine when searching from the address bar.
- Smartphones:
- We fixed an issue where favorite sites on the new tab page could not be edited because the button was too hard to click.
- We fixed an issue where Read Aloud sometimes didn’t highlight words that it should, or read out words that shouldn’t.
- We fixed an issue where the Read Aloud controls were sometimes not visible in the notification area.
Known Bugs:
- Users of some ad blocking extensions may experience playback errors on YouTube. As a workaround, it is recommended to disable the corresponding extension. More detailed information here.
- Some users are still experiencing an error where all tabs and extensions stop working with a STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_HASH error. The most common cause of this error is outdated security software or antivirus software from vendors such as Symantec, in which cases a software update will fix the error.
- Users of Kaspersky Internet Suite who have the appropriate extension installed may sometimes find that some web pages, such as Gmail, do not load. This failure occurs due to the use of outdated core Kaspersky software, therefore it is solved by installing the current version.
- Some users may experience web page ‘wobble’ when scrolling with touchscreen or trackpad gestures, where scrolling in one dimension also causes a subtle scrolling in the other dimension. The issue is reported to only occur on certain web pages and appears to be more severe on some devices. This is most likely because the team is working on creating edge-legacy-compliant scrolling. If you are annoyed by the scrolling issue, then you can temporarily disable the experimental flag: edge://flags/#edge-experimental-scrolling.
If you are already using Edge Dev on your computer, you will receive the update automatically as soon as possible. If you want to speed up the process, then open the browser, go to “Settings” in the section “About Microsoft Edge”, after which the browser update will begin.
