Microsoft on their blog told Learn about cached data compression in the Edge browser, which improves browser performance and reduces disk space consumption. This feature was first used in Microsoft Edge 102.
All modern browsers, including Microsoft Edge, cache various content on the hard drive, so that in the future the browser can quickly get data from a local copy without downloading it from the network. As a result, pages load faster and use less traffic. However, it is impossible to increase the size of the cache indefinitely, as sooner or later the free disk space will run out.
To increase the maximum amount of cached data, Microsoft has started using compression technologies in the Edge browser. It is noted that automatic cache compression is performed only in cases where this does not lead to a decrease in performance and does not worsen the user’s interaction with the browser.
