According to editions of Dr Windows, Microsoft is working on a lighter version of the Outlook app for Android. It is possible that this version will eventually replace the current Outlook client for Android, although it looks much more logical to have both applications in parallel.
It is worth noting that a light version of the Outlook client for Android already exists, but it is only available in a few regions of the world. It looks like Microsoft is now intent on releasing Outlook Lite to a wider audience, as evidenced by the entry in the Microsoft 365 roadmap. The release of Outlook Lite for Android is scheduled for July 2022, but the timing is still subject to change.
“This is an Android app that includes the core benefits of Outlook in a smaller app size and delivers high performance for low-cost devices on any network,” the roadmap says.
Colleagues with Windows Central Portal also shared screenshots of the new Outlook Lite app. According to them, this version really works smoothly and includes most of the features from the regular Outlook client. However, it was not without limitations. So, Outlook Lite supports only one type of accounts.
