Microsoft showcases Android 12L for Surface Duo with Windows 11 design

Microsoft first showed off a new firmware version for Surface Duo running Android 12L, which features a new design reminiscent of Fluent Design from Windows 11. After the update, users will see an updated notification bar, new blur effects, and a redesigned Settings app with icons in the style of Windows 11. It will also be possible to choose a system accent color based on the installed desktop wallpaper.

Apparently, Microsoft wants the Surface Duo to feel like a Windows companion device, while keeping the user interface familiar and familiar to Android users.

It is expected that the new firmware version will be released before the end of this year, but Microsoft is not yet ready to give an exact date. The update will likely be available for both Surface Duo 1 and Surface Duo 2.
