Microsoft to preview new Teams client based on WebView2 in March

The Verge Portal informs, that next month Microsoft will begin public testing of the new Teams client, which has been developed for several years under the names Microsoft Teams 2.0 or 2.1. The new version is built from scratch, will consume 50% less memory and be more power efficient than the current client.

The developers decided to migrate Microsoft Teams from Electron to their own WebView2 technology, as well as switch from javascript to React. All of these changes should result in significant performance improvements and user interface improvements. Some of the work done as part of this project was used in the integrated version of Microsoft Teams in Windows 11.

It is reported that during testing corporate users will be able to return to the old version of the client without any problems, if necessary. The company is committed to making the transition to the new Microsoft Teams as smooth as possible.
