Microsoft unveils Surface Laptop Go 2

Microsoft officially introduced a new generation of Surface Laptop Go. It is reported that you can pre-order the new product from today, and the first customers will receive the device on June 7th.

Visually, Surface Laptop Go 2 is no different from its predecessor. It still features a 12.4-inch PixelSense touchscreen, and the body is made from a mixture of aluminum and polycarbonate. There’s still no keyboard backlighting or support for Windows Hello facial recognition, but the webcam for video calls is a bit better.

But “under the hood” changes are much more. As Microsoft strives to reduce the carbon footprint of its products, the Surface Laptop Go 2 has become one of the most maintainable devices in the lineup along with the Surface Laptop Studio. This means technicians can easily replace the keyboard, touch finger, display, battery, Surflink and SSD.

The Surface Laptop Go 2 is powered by an 11th Gen Intel Core i5 processor, which is pretty good for the device’s target audience. Microsoft has ditched the entry-level 64GB eMMC model, so the Surface Laptop Go 2 comes with a 128GB SSD as a minimum. True, because of this, the most affordable model now costs $599.

Finally, the Surface Laptop Go 2 is the first device from Microsoft under the initiative Secured Core PC. This means that the device provides enhanced security at the firmware level, which means it is suitable for use in organizations that want to protect their data as much as possible.

Model Price
Intel Core i5, 4 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD $599
Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD $699
Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD $799

It looks like the Surface Laptop Go 2 will be the only new device in the Surface lineup to go on sale in the first half of the year. Earlier in this period, Microsoft introduced several updated products, but due to the ongoing shortage of computer components, the company probably did not have time to prepare the rest of the devices yet.
