Head of Xbox Phil Spencer in an interview with IGN declaredthat he is now “more confident” in completing his deal with Activision Blizzard than he was a year ago. Microsoft continues to work with regulators around the world to make sure the deal goes through.
A year ago, I knew nothing about the process of such an acquisition. Because I have more understanding, more knowledge about how to work with different regulators, I am now more confident of success than a year ago, based only on the information I have and the discussions that we have… So I remains very optimistic. We are actively working with regulators around the world who need to approve the transaction, and for me this is a very rewarding experience. It’s been a lot of time, a lot of travel, a lot of talk, but it’s in these talks that I can talk about our industry, the work we do, and why we do it. I think the more regulators know about what games are, how the business works, who the players are, and what our aspirations as Xbox teams are, the better it will be for the industry itself.
Recall that Microsoft announced its intention to acquire Activision Blizzard just over a year ago. At the same time, it was announced that it was planned to complete the transaction within 18 months, that is, around June 2023.
