Bill Ready will be CEO and member of the Board of Directors, effective June 29th
Pinterest said Tuesday that founder and CEO Ben Silbermann will step down and be replaced by Google CEO Bill Ready.
Silbermann will move to the newly formed Executive Chairman, and Ready will be the CEO and member of the Board of Directors, effective June 29, 2022, noted a San Francisco-based company.
The announcement comes as the search and retrieval platform with more than 400 million active users worldwide is planning its next growth period. The company was investing in creators, buying and growing internationally.
“In our next chapter, we focus on helping Pinners buy, try and make all the good ideas they see,” Silbermann said in a statement. “Bill is a great leader in this change. He is a builder with a deep understanding of commerce and payments. ”
Ready has served as President of Commerce, Payments and Next Billion Users at Google and oversees its vision, strategy and delivery of its commercial products. Prior to Google, Ready worked in a variety of senior leadership positions at PayPal.
“Ready’s experience in payments, product development, and acquisitions puts him in a unique position to take Pinterest to its next level of growth,” Andrea Wishom, Independent Executive Director of Pinterest Board, said in a statement.
The visible inspirational platform, launched in 2010, allows users to purchase customized products as well as get ideas. He built a healthy advertising business and doubled his income during the epidemic.
