Qualcomm unveils next-generation ARM processors called Oryon

Qualcomm announced a new generation of ARM processors based on Nuvia’s developments at the annual Snapdragon Summit. It is reported that new items will be released under the name Oryon. A trial batch of chips will be given to OEMs in early 2023, with the first devices based on them due in 2024.

Recall that in January 2021, Qualcomm bought the company Nuvia, consisting of former Apple engineers. Some of them developed Apple’s A-series processors, which inspired the Apple M processors for laptops and desktops.

Qualcomm has long claimed that the new generation of ARM processors will compete with Apple’s M-series chips. Well-known insider Kuba Wojciechowski also praised one of the processors, codenamed “Hamoa”, which has 12 cores (8 performance and 4 energy efficient) with big.LITTLE architecture. The memory and cache configuration is similar to the Apple M1 processor.
