Russian watchdog Roskomnadzor implements measures against TikTok, Telegram, Zoom, Discord, Pinterest

Russia has repeatedly threatened to fine websites that violate tough new laws criminalizing the spread of “false information” about the Russian military

Russia’s state communications watchdog Roskomnadzor said on Friday it was taking punitive measures against a number of foreign IT companies, including TikTok, Telegram, Zoom, Discord and Pinterest.

Roskomnadzor said in a statement that the measures were in response to the companies’ failure to remove content they identified as illegal and would remain in place until they complied. He did not specify what measures would be taken.

Russia has repeatedly threatened to fine websites – including Google – that violate tough new laws criminalizing the spread of “false information” about the Russian military.

Russian courts on Tuesday fined US live streaming service Twitch 2 million rubles ($33,000) and messenger service Telegram 11 million rubles ($179,000) for violating military censorship laws.
