Together with the release of the flagship Galaxy S23 smartphones, Samsung plans to release a new firmware version of One UI numbered 5.1. This will be a relatively minor update that will bring various improvements and a few new features, but won’t be a major design change. We bring to your attention the list of changes in One UI 5.1 published by portal Winfuture.
Key changes in One UI 5.1:
Camera:
- You can now quickly change the tone of a selfie using the Effects button on the side of the screen.
- Expert RAW allows you to capture high quality images without any processing or compression, ideal for those who want to edit their photos later. Expert RAW can now be accessed from the Advanced menu.
Gallery:
- Added shared family album, allowing you to quickly share photos with your family. The Gallery app will recommend photos to add to your shared family album by recognizing the faces of your family members. In addition, you will get 5 GB of cloud storage for each family member (up to 6 people).
- Improved photo processing can now automatically remove shadows and reflections to make your photos look great. Other than that, you can create GIFs with better resolution and clarity.
- If you swipe up while viewing an image or video in the gallery, you can immediately see where and when the image was taken, on what device, where it is stored, etc.
- Improved search. You can now search for multiple people or items at the same time. Moreover, you can search for people without marking their names, but simply by clicking on their faces.
- Now you can save screenshots and screen recordings to a folder of your choice by configuring it in advanced features.
AR Zone and AR Emoji:
- Create funny photos and videos with friends (up to 3 people) in mask mode in AR Emoji Camera app. You can replace the faces of your friends with other characters by clicking on the emoji.
- The brushes are now available on the main screen of AR Doodle for faster access. You can also resize and move drawings after you create them, and the new Eraser tool lets you erase only portions of drawings without completely erasing them.
Widgets:
- With the new battery widget, you can check the battery level of your Galaxy devices. On the home screen of your device, you can see how much battery power is left on your smartphone, Galaxy Buds, Galaxy Watch, and other supported devices.
- Intuitive weather widget. A new style of illustrations and a summary of current weather conditions make it easy to find weather information.
Modes and scenarios:
- You can now set different wallpapers for your lock screen and home screen depending on your current activities. Choose a background for work, sports, and so on by setting different modes.
- Implemented automatic launch of scripts when you turn on the flight mode or mobile hotspot. Scripts can now open some apps, adjust left/right audio balance, and more. New actions also let you control Quick Share and touch sensitivity, as well as change the ringtone and font style.
Connection:
- Collaboration in Samsung Notes. Now you can create a shared note that multiple people can edit at the same time. Write a report with colleagues, take notes for a study group, or draw a picture with a friend. The possibilities are endless.
- Now you can easily invite people to shared albums, notes, and calendars using a link that can be sent to instant messengers, email, and social networks.
- Now you can use your Galaxy Book mouse, keyboard, or trackpad not only with your Galaxy tablet, but also with your Galaxy smartphone. You can easily copy and paste text and drag and drop images from one device to another as if it were the same device.
- If you want to continue listening to music on Wi-Fi speakers via Spotify Connect and the built-in Chromecast, simply launch the media output selection menu from the Quick Access Toolbar without going to the music app.
- If you have been browsing the Internet on your smartphone using Samsung Internet and then decide to continue browsing on your PC, you can now get a list of websites open on your smartphone and continue browsing them using the browser on your PC.
Samsung DeX:
- Improved multitasking in DeX. You can now drag the splitter in the middle of the screen to resize both windows while in split screen mode. In addition, you can snap the window to one of the corners so that it takes up a quarter of the screen.
Settings:
- At the top of the Settings app, you’ll now see recommended useful features to try or about settings that need your attention.
Samsung Internet:
- Now you can search by folder name in bookmarks or by tab group name. Improved search logic allows you to find what you are looking for, even if something is misspelled.
Initial Setup Assistant:
- If you are migrating to a new Galaxy smartphone from another Galaxy or Android device, simply scan the QR code on your old device to automatically transfer your Wi-Fi network settings, Samsung and Google accounts to your new device without having to manually enter this information.
Weather:
- Useful weather information is now displayed on the main screen of the Weather app. So you can check the weather alerts, see the daily weather forecast, hourly rainfall data, and explore color temperature graphs.
Calls:
- You can now use Bixby text commands to automatically answer calls and know the purpose of the call. In a text chat, you will see what the caller is saying, and you can also type the answer in text form, which the assistant will voice to the caller with his head.
