Screen Recording Feature Introduced in Snipping Tool for Windows 11 (Dev Channel)

Microsoft has begun testing a new version of the Snipping Tool (11.2211.35.0) for Windows 11, which brings with it the ability to record video from your computer screen. The app update is currently only available to members of the Windows Insider program on the Dev channel.

We know Scissors is popular with insiders, and with this update, we’re excited to introduce built-in screen recording! Snipping always makes it quick and easy to capture and share content from your computer, and the built-in screen recording feature opens up new possibilities for capturing other types of content.

To take advantage of the new feature, open the Scissors app and select the Record tab. You can then refine the area of the screen that needs to be captured on video. After the recording is completed, you can evaluate the result before saving it or sending it to other users.

Since this is a pre-release version of the app, there are some issues with it. According to Microsoft, some users may experience a slight delay between pressing the “Start” button and the actual recording of the video. Also, the Snipping app window may not be restored when creating a new screen snip from the app.
