The Sennheiser Momentum 4 fits under the premium segment and mainly competes with Sony’s ANC headphones in India
Sennheiser has been in the audio segment for a long time and has delivered several products with an enhanced audio experience in the past. It has now launched the fourth generation of Momentum wireless headphones priced at ₹ 34,990, taking on the likes of BOSE and Sony. The new Sennheiser Momentum 4 offers active noise cancellation (ANC) along with transparency mode and several other features.
In the box
The headset sits in a case, and inside the case you get a USB-A to USB-C cable, an airplane adapter, and a 2.5mm to 3.5mm TRS cable to use in case the device you want to connect does. it does not come with bluetooth function.
The new Sennheiser Momentum 4 comes with a very clean design. The body is made of plastic, which makes the headphones light. Although it looks premium. The belt has soft padding for easy wearing. The two oval earcups come with soft padding and the earcups are designed in a more of a loose size manner and fit comfortably in the ears. The earcups lie flat and don’t fold, so carrying the headset without a case requires adjusting the location. Controls are entirely located on the right earcup, as the power and pairing button, USB-C charging port, and LED indicators can be found on the right earcup.
Apart from the pairing button, all controls are touch-sensitive and located on the right earpiece. Touch controls allow you to play/pause songs, increase/decrease the volume and skip to the next or previous song. The touchpad is quite smooth and responsive to use. The headset also has an auto play/pause feature when you take it off and wear it. The headset automatically turns off and can be adjusted using the Sennheiser app.
The new Sennheiser Momentum 4 is compatible with Bluetooth 5.2 and also supports AptX, AptX Adaptive, AAC and SBC codecs. We didn’t use the Sennheiser app to pair the headset and were able to pair it with our phone comfortably. For better functions, settings and control, it is better to use the Sennheiser Control app. The app comes with a connection manager that shows how many devices are connected to the headset. There is an equalizer mode that allows you to choose from a list of available presets such as Rock, Pop, Dance, Hip Hop, Classical and Movie, allowing you to adjust the level of bass, mids and treble to your preference. The app also has a Sound Zone mode that allows you to automatically apply sound settings when entering or leaving specific zones such as your work zone, home, gym, etc. You can also adjust the ANC and transparency level using the Sennheiser app.
The active noise cancellation (ANC) function of the new Sennheiser Momentum 4 is very good. It relatively effectively suppresses unwanted noise from the external environment. The headset also has a transparency mode that lets you see your surroundings, especially when you’re walking down the road and need to be aware of vehicles approaching from behind. While the ANC of the Momentum 4 Wireless is good, it’s not on par with the competition, such as the ANC on BOSE or Sony headphones, as it didn’t completely cancel out external noise. You will also find Adaptive mode on it, which automatically adapts to the environment.
The new Sennheiser Momentum 4 has a very clear sound quality and allows you to hear every note. The sound output is spot on and you can feel the richness of the songs. The bass quality is very good and you can also adjust the bass levels using the equalizer mode and there is also Bass Boost which adds more punch. The sound produced is very deep and allows you to feel every element of the song very clearly. The overall experience of listening to music on the new Sennheiser Momentum 4 is very immersive and we did not encounter any deviation in the sound frequency, everything was at a good level. One good thing is that the sound produced does not pinch the eardrums, which allows you to use the headphones for much longer periods of time.
The new Sennheiser Momentum 4 comes with two microphones split on each of the earcups. The headset does a very good job of blocking out unnecessary ambient noise, reducing the level of irritation we usually face while on the phone. The headset can switch to transparency mode when making a voice or video call. The Sennheiser Control app also has a Sidestone mode that allows you to adjust the sound level while on the phone.
The new Sennheiser Momentum 4 comes with 60 hours of ANC battery life. In testing, we were able to use the headset for nearly 55-58 hours quite easily on a single charge. The battery life of the new Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless puts the new headset ahead of its competitors, which only last 30-35 hours of playback. It takes approximately 2 to 2:15 hours to fully charge the headset.
The new Sennheiser Momentum 4 is a simple and elegant looking headset. The synthetic leather provides comfort, but humid weather can make the earcups quite uncomfortable in the ears. When we wore the headset in a non-AC environment, we faced the problem of excessive sweating. The ANC feature was spot on, but compared to BOSE and Sony’s ANC-enabled headphones, the new Sennheiser Momentum 4 is a bit behind.
The smart on/off feature is something we liked because the moment the headset is inserted into the case, it immediately comes off, which also helps save battery life. Battery life capability is one of the main strengths of the new Sennheiser Momentum 4. If you are looking for ANC enabled headphones with long battery life, we definitely recommend the new Sennheiser Momentum 4.
