In the past 12 months, Bangalore, Mumbai and Hyderabad have placed more orders than the entire population of Canada
Two years after launching Swiggy Instamart, an instant delivery service, the company said it now has nearly nine million lifetime users across more than 25 cities. The company said orders on Instamart ranged from ₹11,535 to ₹1 (thanks to offers).
In a press release, Swiggy said the number of orders on its Instamart grew 16 times between June 2021 and June 2022. Metro cities Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai place the most orders.
The company also said Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad saw maximum orders for emergency items. Sanitary napkins, menstrual cups and tampons take the top spot with almost two million orders.
Orders for first aid items witnessed an increase as nearly 45,000 boxes of plasters were ordered, online supply of condoms increased 570 times compared to the previous year.
And while most ice cream orders were placed after 10pm, they grew by 42% between April and June. High demand for instant noodles was also witnessed in metro cities where more than 5.6 million packets were delivered.
The company has also delivered more than 50 million egg orders over the past two years, with Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai ordering an average of six million eggs each last year.
Over the past year, the platform has delivered nearly 62,000 tons of fruits and vegetables, with 30 million milk orders over the past two years.
Interestingly, cleaning products such as bathroom cleaners, cleaning pads and drain cleaners have been ordered more than two million times in the past year.
