Telegram’s new update brings endless reactions, emoji statuses

Encrypted messaging app Telegram has announced that it’s rolling out a new update that gives users more ways to use new emojis to express how they’re feeling — with endless emoji reactions and statuses.

The company said that premium users can choose reactions from an endless selection of custom emojis. To make it easier to choose from thousands of emoticons, they can now attach up to three reactions to each message.

“All users now have access to dozens of reactions – including those previously only available with Telegram Premium,” the company said in a blog post.

“To accommodate all the new emotes, we’ve redesigned the reaction panel so it’s expandable. Reactions you use frequently will appear at the top,” he added.

These reaction changes are currently available in groups and 1v1 chats.

With the new update, group admins can control whether custom reactions can be used in their groups.

Premium users can now add an animated emoji status displayed next to their name – letting everyone know quickly how they’re feeling or what they’re doing.

“This custom status will replace your premium premium badge in your chat list, profile and groups,” the company said.

Users can set one of seven standard statuses that change their color to match different Telegram themes – or choose from an infinite number of custom emoticons. Popular suggestions for work, sleep, travel and more will appear at the top.

“Tap the premium badge at the top of the chat list or go to settings to change your status. Press and hold the emoji to set the status to a specific time,” according to Telegram.

“Anyone can use Telegram’s open emoji platform to upload custom packs with unique art styles and characters for Telegram Premium users,” he added.

Users who frequently sign out and back in can now receive sign-in codes via their email address or by using Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google.
