Centre gives Twitter ‘one last chance’ to comply with new IT rules

The center gives Twitter a ‘last chance’ to comply with the new IT rules

The government has issued a Twitter notice to comply with all of its previous orders on July 4, an official source said on Wednesday. The Ministry of Electronics and IT has set a July 4 deadline, otherwise Twitter could lose its linking position, meaning it will be bound by all comments posted on its site. “The notice was issued on June 27 on Twitter to comply with all government directives issued so far. Twitter issued notices earlier this month but did not comply with it. This is the last notice,” a government source told PTI.

An email question sent to Twitter did not respond immediately.Twitter has been at loggerheads with the government many times.

On June 26, the microblogging site posted a list of more than 80 Twitter accounts and tweets we blocked based on a government request in 2021.

The government’s request was to block several accounts and tweets from the land rights organization Freedom House, journalists, politicians and supporters of the farmers’ protest.

A government source, however, said there were several other directives, Twitter had yet to comply with and they were given the last July 4 deadline to comply.
