Google Duo

The Google Duo video chat app is gone, but the app icon is back on Android

After renaming its video chat app Duo to Meet, tech giant Google has brought back the original Duo icon and name as a separate shortcut that appears in the app’s launcher.

Google has decided to merge its two video calling services into one, choosing “Meet” as the surviving brand, 9To5Google reports.

The Google Duo app is the only one still in use in terms of implementation and is upgraded with a new home screen and features from both services.

Duo has a significantly larger installed base, which explains this, the report said.

An update started rolling out in early August that replaced the blue Duo icon and introduced a four-color version of Meet. After updating and opening the Duo app, it disappears from the launcher.

Gigant said it intentionally brought back the Duo icon with this update to Android. It’s meant to help people who search/type “Duo” to launch the app.

The company said it is working to make the upgrade easier for end users.

Recently, the company also announced new features like scheduling and joining meetings, virtual backgrounds, meeting chat, and more, in addition to your current video calling features after the Duo and Meet merger.
