The new Photos app for Windows 11 is now available to Insiders in the Dev channel

The Windows Insider team has announced that they have begun public testing of the new Photos app for Windows 11. The app is currently in preview for some insiders on the Dev channel, but will roll out to more users over time.

The new version of Photos includes a handy gallery that makes it easy to view, find and manage your photo collection. It also lets you easily back up your photos using your OneDrive cloud storage. Among the innovations can be noted a new function “Memories”.

The main features of the application:

  • Organize photos with a convenient and beautiful user interface.
  • Easily back up photos to OneDrive to keep your memories safe.
  • Ability to recall past events with the new “Memories” feature.
  • Working with multiple windows and multiple screens.
  • Ability to view OneDrive cloud storage data. From the app, you can also expand your cloud storage.
  • Import photos from external sources, be it a smartphone or a camera.

New version of “Photos” (2022.31090.16004.0 and newer) will replace the current application. It is worth noting that the new application will not have features for video editing. Microsoft recommends that users use the Clipchamp video editor, which includes many different tools, including the ability to add transitions and animated text.

If you want to continue using the legacy Photos app, you can download it from the Microsoft Store by this link.
