Tutorial: Enable New Anchor Layout Options in Windows 11 Build 25300+ (Dev)

Windows 11 Insider Build 25300 for the Dev channel began testing new menu options with window anchor layouts. Microsoft has prepared three slightly different versions, and if you’re lucky, one of which you can see on your computer after the update. Fortunately, you can enable the change and switch between options using the ViVeTool utility.

Microsoft is investigating the possibility of improving the accessibility and use of anchor layouts, for example, by reducing the time it takes to bring up a pop-up menu when hovering over the Maximize or Restore button in the application’s title bar. In addition, some menu options will display the icon of the window you are working in, as well as a title with a description of the function.

We thank colleagues from the Winaero portal for the information provided.

  1. Download the ViVeTool utility by this link. This is a new version of ViveTool 0.3.2, details of which we have covered in our material.
  2. Unpack the downloaded archive to any place on your computer (for example, you can create a ViVeTool folder in the root of the C: drive and place the files there).
  3. Open a command prompt as an administrator (for example, by typing CMD in the search and selecting the appropriate item).
  4. In the command line, navigate to the folder with ViVeTool using the command cd /d , then press Enter. For example: cd /d "C:\ViVeTool"
  5. Type one of the following commands and press Enter:
    • Option 0. Just add “Snap this window” as the title.
      vivetool /enable /id:40851068 /store:both
    • Option 1. There will be no inscription, but the time before opening the anchor layout menu will decrease.
      vivetool /enable /id:40851068 /variant:1 /store:both
    • Option 2. Adds the caption “Snap this window” as the title and the app’s icon at the selected layout position.
      vivetool /enable /id:40851068 /variant:2 /store:both
    • Option 3. Includes all of the above changes.
      vivetool /enable /id:40851068 /variant:3 /store:both
  6. Make sure that the command line shows the message “Successfully set feature configuration”
  7. Restart your computer to apply the changes.

To disable the function, use the command:

  • vivetool /disable /id:40851068 /store:both
