WhatsApp is been asked by the Indian Govt to review : Dhotre

The government has asked the messaging company Whatsapp to review its privacy policy changes, the Minister of State for Technology and Communications Sanjay Dhotre informed Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

WhatsApp has received widespread criticism from users around the world, including India, over concerns that the data was shared with its parent company, Facebook. WhatsApp, for its part, has maintained that platform messages are encrypted to the end and that WhatsApp or Facebook cannot detect private messages on the WhatsApp platform.

“The Department of Technology and Information Technology (MeitY) has recognized WhatsApp’s announcement of a new privacy policy that is said to be applicable to Indian users. To protect the interests of Indian users, Meity called on WhatsApp to review the proposed privacy policy changes and explain the same idea, ”Dhotre said in a reply to Lok Sabha.

Whatsapp has advised its users to accept the updated policy changes on March 15 if they want to continue using the app.
