WABeta reports that WhatsApp is setting up an Avatar profile photo feature that would allow users to set a customized avatar as a picture. A screenshot obtained by the WhatsApp news portal shows how users would be able to customize and choose an avatar, choose a background color and set the avatar as a profile photo. There is currently no word on when the feature will be released. And since it’s in the early stages of development, it may take some time to reach the general public.

Earlier this month, WhatsApp announced a number of new privacy features for its service that are rolling out to all users. Some of the new features include the ability to hide the online status indicator, leave WhatsApp groups silently without notifying users, and block screenshots for selected messages.
After the update, users will reportedly be able to regulate the visibility of their online status among all users, only contacts or no one. Just as the visibility of other chat features such as read receipts can be controlled. WhatsApp users will also be able to silently leave any of the groups they are a part of without notifying all users in the group. Please note that group administrators will continue to be notified of their termination.
