Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25236 Announcement (Dev Channel)

Good evening friends! Microsoft has released a new preview build of Windows 11 25236 for Windows Insider program members using the Dev channel.

Complete build number: 10.0.25236.1000.rs_prerelease.221028-1618.

Changes and improvements

  • General:
    • To enhance the usefulness of the Search icon on the taskbar, Microsoft is testing different ways to display tips on how to use this feature. Tips will only be shown to US Insiders using the English language system.
  • Microsoft Store update (version 22210.1401.x):
    • Added a page with special offers that are available for your newly purchased PC. You can also quickly activate these offers from this page.
    • Optimized the layout and rendering engine for search results, resulting in smoother scrolling and block resizing. This will be especially noticeable on low-end devices.

Fixes

  • Narrator:
    • Fixed an issue that caused natural voices such as David and Mark not to work.
  • Taskbar and system tray:
    • We fixed an issue where opening the “Show Hidden Icons” pop-up menu could result in the File Explorer icon appearing on the taskbar.
    • We fixed an issue where window thumbnails on the taskbar could freeze, appear blank, or not appear at all when switching between windows using WIN + (#).
    • The “Show Hidden Icons” popup in the system tray should now correctly adjust to the number of tray icons without empty spaces or columns appearing.
    • Fixed several issues that affected the stability of explorer.exe.
    • We fixed an issue that caused the volume icon on the taskbar to erroneously indicate that the sound was muted.
    • Fixed a memory leak in the GDI handle related to updating the “Notification Center” icon on the taskbar. This could eventually cause explorer.exe to crash if a large number of notifications were received.
    • Narrator will now tell you if an app is pinned to the taskbar.
  • Conductor:
    • We fixed an issue resulting in File Explorer crashing when closing tabs for some users.
    • Another change has been made to address an issue with erroneous separator lines being displayed in the File Explorer navigation bar.
  • Options:
    • The battery graph will no longer be displayed on the Power & Battery page if a UPS is connected because the capacity information was incorrect.
    • If you do not have kiosk mode set up, then under Accounts -> Other Users -> Terminal you will see updated text to explain the required steps to enable the mode.
    • We fixed an issue where opening the properties of an audio device could unexpectedly show up in the list of output devices, even though it was actually an input device.
    • The option to invert color filters should now work correctly in accessibility settings. Prior to this, the system went into grayscale mode.
  • Other:
    • We fixed an issue resulting in some Insiders experiencing a GSOD with the SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED error.

Note. Some of the fixes listed above may be included in cumulative updates for release versions of Windows 11.

Known Issues

  • General:
    • We are investigating reports that audio playback has stopped working for some Insiders after upgrading to previous builds.
    • We are investigating reports that recent Insider builds have seen an increase in crashes in some apps and games.
    • We are investigating reports of some UI elements sometimes disappearing and reappearing in apps in the last few builds.
    • We are investigating reports of thick lines appearing on the sides of some application windows, such as Microsoft Edge.
    • When installing the latest build from the Dev channel using an ISO image, a GSOD may appear with a SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION error pointing to the win32kfull.sys file. Engineers are working to fix the problem.
    • [NEW] We are investigating an issue where switching projection modes using WIN + P or the Cast to Screen option in Quick Actions does not work. As a workaround, you can switch modes using the broadcast icon in the system tray (Win+K) for Miracast or wired displays
  • Task bar:
    • The taskbar may flicker when switching between desktop mode and tablet mode.
    • When opening the Quick Actions menu with a gesture in the lower right corner of the screen, the taskbar may not collapse and remain in the expanded state.
  • Updated system tray:
    • Messenger apps do not display animations to notify of a new message and do not trigger a preview when hovering the mouse over their icons. Engineers are working to fix the problem.
  • Start menu:
    • We are investigating reports that folders in the Start menu do not open on the first try.
    • [NEW] We are investigating an issue that causes garbled text in the navigation titles in All Apps when using the Chinese language system.
  • Input:
    • We are investigating reports that the text cursor turns white when hovering over text fields with a white background, making it difficult to distinguish.
  • Widgets:
    • In right-to-left languages (such as Arabic), the content of the widget bar animates out of view when switching to the full-screen version of the widget bar.

I wish you a successful update!
