Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25252 Announcement (Dev Channel)

Good morning friends! Microsoft has released a new preview build of Windows 11 25252 for Windows Insider program members using the Dev channel.

Complete build number: 10.0.25252.1000.rs_prerelease.221120-1508.

Changes and improvements

  • Taskbar and system tray:
    • Added the ability to monitor the VPN status in the system tray when connecting to a recognized VPN profile. A small shield with a system accent color will be overlaid on top of the network connection icon.
  • Search on the taskbar:
    • Microsoft continues to experiment with different options for displaying search on the taskbar. The change is not available to all insiders. Those users who receive this change will be able to control the appearance of the search in the “Settings” -> “Personalization” -> “Taskbar” -> “Taskbar Items”.

Fixes

  • Taskbar and system tray:
    • Fixed explorer.exe crashing when using ALT + F4 while the “Show Hidden Icons” popup menu on the taskbar is open.
    • Fixed numerous issues with explorer.exe that affected the performance of the taskbar.
    • Updated the tooltip for the battery icon to let you know if your device is charging slowly.
    • We’ve made a small improvement for tablet-optimized taskbar users to make it slightly easier to open the taskbar without opening the start menu.
    • We fixed an issue resulting in Taskbar Jump Lists and App Thumbnails not displaying correctly on Insiders using 2-in-1 hybrid devices.
  • Start menu:
    • We fixed an issue resulting in folders in the Start menu not opening on the first try.
  • Other:
    • We fixed an issue resulting in some Insiders experiencing a GSOD with a SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION error after upgrading to a previous build.
    • We fixed an issue that caused some apps (including Media Player) to crash when playing media in the background.
    • We fixed an issue that caused the computer to go to sleep even if it was configured to never go to sleep.
    • We fixed an issue where copying files from the network to local storage (for example, when copying a file from a network share) was slower than expected.

Note. Some of the fixes listed above may be included in cumulative updates for release versions of Windows 11.

Known Issues

  • General:
    • [Новое] In some cases, a small number of Insiders may be missing “Widgets”, which can cause explorer.exe to cycle after updating to this build. You can install the component responsible for “Widgets” by this link. It is recommended to do this before upgrading. If you have already updated and are facing a problem, then use this instruction to rollback to a previous build.
    • [Новое] There is an issue in Builds 25247+ that prevents some Insiders from viewing some optional drives. It may also affect other PCI devices. The Device Manager shows that an error occurred while initializing the device. Microsoft is working on a fix. Devices should work again after updating to a hotfix build.
    • We are investigating reports that audio playback has stopped working for some Insiders after upgrading to previous builds.
    • We are investigating reports that recent Insider builds have seen an increase in crashes in some apps and games.
    • We are investigating reports of some UI elements sometimes disappearing and reappearing in apps in the last few builds.
  • Task bar:
    • Sometimes the taskbar is cut in half when using the tablet-optimized version.
    • [Новое] Microsoft is working on a fix for an issue causing the Bluetooth section in Quick Actions to crash. If you encounter this problem, then temporarily use the “Settings” -> “Bluetooth and devices” section.
  • Search on the taskbar:
    • For some files ending in .cmd, .exe, or .bat, you must press the Backspace key after typing to see the search result.
  • Search on the taskbar (if new field display options are available):
    • [New] When changing the primary monitor, such as connecting an external display, a floating search box appears on the desktop. This problem can be solved by going to Personalization -> Taskbar -> Search and toggling the setting.
    • [New] When using multiple monitors, the search box does not appear on an inactive monitor when the Search pop-up is open. This only happens if the “Show the taskbar on all displays” setting is enabled.
    • [New] When you click on the search field on the taskbar, it will flash for a moment before the Search pop-up appears.
    • [New] Right-to-left languages (such as Arabic) have problems positioning text inside the search field on the taskbar.
    • [New] Some Japanese IME suggestions are cut off inside the search box on the taskbar.
  • Task Manager:
    • Search by publisher name on the Processes page does not work correctly.
    • Some services may not appear on the Services page after applying a filter.
    • If a new process is launched during filter installation, it may appear in the filtered list for a fraction of a second.
    • Some dialog boxes may use the wrong theme if the theme is set in the Task Manager preferences.
    • The content area on the Processes page may flash once when changing the theme in the Task Manager settings.
    • We are investigating an issue where Task Manager does not properly display light and dark content, resulting in unreadable text. This happens if the “Custom” mode is selected in the “Options” -> “Personalization” -> “Colors” section. As a workaround, choose a light or dark theme.
    • Some Insiders may be missing items on the App Startup page. If you encounter this problem, then use the “Settings” -\u003e “Applications” -\u003e “Startup” section.
  • Widgets:
    • In right-to-left languages (such as Arabic), the content of the widget bar animates out of view when switching to the full-screen version of the widget bar.

We wish you a successful update!
