Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25272 Announcement (Dev Channel

Good evening friends! Microsoft has released a new preview build of Windows 11 25272 for Windows Insider program members using the Dev channel.

Complete build number: 10.0.25272.1000.rs_prerelease.221216-1237.

Changes and improvements

  • General:
    • The Quick Support app has been moved from the Windows Tools section of the Start menu so that it can now be quickly found in the list of all applications.
    • Microsoft has removed the suggested action to find copied text using Edge. Also removed the display of popular sites in the “Recommended” area in the “Start” menu. Both changes were implemented in build 25247.
  • WSL:
    • The preinstalled version of Windows Subsystem for Linux has been removed from the system since build 25267. When you install a build with this change, you will need to upgrade to the latest version of WSL using instructions from GitHubto continue using WSL. This needs to be done once, so when upgrading to future builds, these steps will not be required. Later, Microsoft wants to automate the process.
  • Seal:
    • Added a Refresh button to the print queue window.

Corrections

  • General:
    • We fixed an issue resulting in a black screen on some ARM64 devices when resuming from sleep or hibernation.
    • We fixed an issue that sometimes caused some UI elements to disappear and reappear in apps.
  • Search on the taskbar (if new field display options are available):
    • We fixed an issue where the search box on the taskbar could display incorrectly in some cases, including with visual artifacts.
    • Suggestions from the Japanese IME should now correctly appear inside the search field on the taskbar.
  • Task Manager:
    • We fixed an issue that caused the publisher name search to not work correctly on the Processes page.
    • We fixed an issue where some services might not appear on the Services page after applying a filter.
    • We fixed an issue where running processes could appear in the filtered list for a fraction of a second.
    • We fixed an issue that caused the Task Manager to display light and dark content incorrectly, resulting in unreadable text.
    • We fixed an issue resulting in missing items on the Startup Apps page for some Insiders.
    • If there are no search results, then Task Manager will now explicitly report this.
    • Fixed a crash in the “Task Manager” when trying to end certain processes.
    • Now you can set focus on the search field with the CTRL + F combination.
  • Narrator:
    • We fixed an issue resulting in Settings crashing after enabling and disabling Narrator on Lithuanian or Hungarian systems.
    • Narrator should now work correctly with Windows Defender Application Guard for Edge.
  • Live Captions:
    • We fixed an issue resulting in Live Captions not working in previous Dev channel builds.
  • Input:
    • When using the Japanese IME with Narrator, the entire line of the song will no longer be spoken every time you press a key.
    • The notification that is displayed when using ALT + Shift for the first time should no longer be displayed if only one layout is installed on the system.
    • We fixed an issue that prevented Surface Pen from flipping through slides in PowerPoint in previous builds.
    • Changes have been made to improve performance when using a mouse with a high data rate during gameplay.
    • We fixed an issue where using a gesture to open the Start menu could cause it to get stuck halfway through.
    • We fixed an issue that could cause Excel to stop responding to drag and drop when using the Japanese or Chinese IME.
  • Parameters:
    • We fixed an issue that could result in a hang when deauthenticating with a certificate while connected to a VPN.
    • We fixed an issue resulting in the Settings app crashing when opening the Power & Battery section.
    • We fixed an issue that caused Quick Actions to crash when opening the Bluetooth section.
    • We fixed an issue that could cause app icons to be blurry in Settings -> Apps -> Default Apps.
  • Window:
    • We fixed an issue resulting in a black screen when exiting certain games using ALT + Tab.
    • The Maximize button should no longer be slightly smaller than the Close and Minimize buttons when hovering over it in File Explorer and some other apps when using the dark theme.
    • Fixed several DWM crashes seen in previous builds.
  • Other:
    • We fixed an issue that caused some Windows Security applications to crash.
    • Fixed an issue that caused the print queue to display outdated job information for connected printers.
    • We fixed an issue where when creating a FIDO2 credential for a website using a browser, the dialog would appear twice in a row in some cases.
    • This build includes a fix for an issue affecting Windows Hello on some PCs. Microsoft continues to investigate the issue, which only occurs on ARM64 devices.
    • We fixed an issue where the Camera app could display a “Something went wrong” message if you pressed the Pause button while recording a video.

Note. Some of the fixes listed above may be included in cumulative updates for release versions of Windows 11.

Known Issues

  • General:
    • Some devices will not work with Windows Hello for face authentication. Users are encouraged to use a PIN to log in.
  • Task bar:
    • Sometimes the taskbar is cut in half when using the tablet-optimized version. This issue can also be seen on secondary monitors.
  • Search on the taskbar (if new field display options are available):
    • Right-to-left languages ​​(such as Arabic) have problems positioning text inside the search field on the taskbar.
  • Task Manager:
    • Some dialog boxes may use the wrong theme if the theme is set in the Task Manager preferences.
    • The content area on the Processes page may flash once when changing the theme in the Task Manager settings.
  • Widgets:
    • We are investigating an issue where Insiders in China may experience a Widget Bar stuck in an invisible state, causing the system to not register mouse clicks on the left side of the screen. If you encounter this, then use the combination WIN + D to solve the problem.
    • In right-to-left languages ​​(such as Arabic), the content of the widget bar animates out of view when switching to the full-screen version of the widget bar.
