Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25314 Announcement (Canary Channel)

Good evening friends! Microsoft has released a new preview build of Windows 11 25314 for Windows Insider Program members using the Canary channel.

Complete build number: 10.0.25314.1000.rs_prerelease.230303-1411.

Updated 03/10/2023. The cumulative update KB5025135 has been released, which does not bring any innovations with it, but is aimed at testing the maintenance system. After the update, the system build number will change to 25314.1010.

Complete build number: 10.0.25314.1010.rs_prerelease_flt.230303-1429.

As a reminder, the Canary channel is ideal for advanced users. It tests changes to the platform at an early stage of development. Builds for the Canary channel are released shortly after compilation without much internal testing. This means that builds may contain critical bugs that will prevent you from fully using the operating system. Moreover, in rare cases, a complete reinstallation of Windows may be required to resolve problems.

If you’re on build 25XXX and want to switch back to the Dev channel, you’ll need to completely reinstall your operating system. The fact is that the build number for the Canary channel is higher than those that are released on the Dev channel.

Innovations

Keyboard shortcut hints in File Explorer

Added keyboard shortcut hints to the XAML-based context menu in File Explorer. The displayed letter or symbol is part of the keyboard shortcut and corresponds to the name of the action in the context menu. To try out the change, select any file and press the context menu key on your keyboard.

Note. If you see a button with a pizza icon on the File Explorer toolbar, then you are using the Windows App SDK version of File Explorer. For this version, this change is not yet available.

This change is not yet available to all Insiders on the Canary channel. Microsoft wants to collect feedback from a small group of users before the change is made available to all Insiders.

Recommended files in File Explorer

File Explorer’s home page now displays recommended files to make it easier for you to find the most up-to-date content. This feature will only be available to users signed in to Windows with an Azure Active Directory (AAD) account. The recommended list will include cloud files associated with the account, as well as files owned by the user or shared by colleagues.

This change is not yet available to all Insiders on the Canary channel. Microsoft wants to collect feedback from a small group of users before the change is made available to all Insiders.

LSA Protection Enablement when updating OS

Local Security Authority (LSA) protection helps prevent theft of confidential and login credentials by preventing unauthorized code from executing in LSA processes and by preventing memory dumping. During the upgrade, LSA security incompatibility will be audited for a certain period of time. If no problems are found, then LSA protection will be enabled automatically. You can check and change the LSA protection status in the Windows Security app under Device Security > Core Isolation.

LSA protection writes to the event log whether any programs have been blocked. Details about this can be found on the official site.

Narrator now supports Outlook

From now on, Narrator will receive updates to support Outlook. Detailed information about this can be found on the official website of Microsoft. These changes allow Microsoft to update the Outlook experience through the Microsoft Store. After the process is complete, you will receive a notification that the update is being installed. Narrator’s Outlook support is currently limited to US English. More languages will be supported in future builds.

Channel Canary

The builds for the Canary channel will include various changes to the platform that require extensive insider testing before they are rolled out to the general public. These changes include major changes to the Windows kernel, new APIs, and more. Canary will in many ways resemble the old Dev channel, which means that not all of the changes presented will make it to the final release.

For now, insiders on the Canary channel will receive build numbers of 25000, while Dev, Beta, and Release Preview numbers will be lower. Since Insiders in the Dev Channel are already using 25XXX builds, they will automatically transferred to the Canary channel to continue getting new builds. Information about this change will be sent by email and as a toast notification in Windows. To switch to another channel, insiders will need to completely reinstall the operating system.

The change also applies to corporate clients managed by Group Policy, Windows Update for Business, or Microsoft Intune.

Please note that builds for the Canary channel will be released shortly after compilation without much internal testing. This means that builds may contain critical bugs that will prevent you from fully using the operating system. Moreover, in rare cases, a complete reinstallation of Windows may be required to resolve problems.

The Windows Insider team will not publish a blog post for every build on the Canary channel. This will only happen if the build includes new features. Documentation for builds in the Canary channel will be limited.

We wish you a successful update!
