Xiaomi introduced wireless AR glasses with gesture control

At the Mobile World Congress 2023 event, Xiaomi demonstrated a concept wireless augmented reality glasses called Xiaomi Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition. At the moment, it is not known whether this device will be available for free sale.

It is reported that the computing capabilities of the device meets the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 1 processor. The glasses are equipped with two MicroOLED screens with a brightness of up to 1200 nits. They can be used as a virtual reality headset, but they are primarily intended for AR applications.

Xiaomi Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition is made of magnesium-lithium alloy, has carbon fiber parts, and a silicon-oxygen anode battery developed by the company’s specialists is responsible for autonomy. All this allowed to minimize the physical load on the user. The weight of the device is only 126 grams.

Xiaomi has also developed a special gesture system for working with augmented reality glasses. By moving their fingers, users can interact with applications, virtual web pages and videos. What’s more, with the help of AR glasses, it is possible to control smart devices in the home, for example, by looking at a smart lamp and sliding your fingers over it to turn it on or off.

Xiaomi Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition is designed to be paired with smartphones that support Qualcomm Snapdragon Spaces. They also support OpenXR and even Microsoft’s Mixed Reality Toolkit (MRTK) which was developed for the HoloLens headset.
